About
Umar Farooq is a corporate lawyer with more than 17 years of experience advising founders, investors, and established companies on complex transactions, strategic growth, and day-to-day corporate governance. His practice focuses on emerging companies, venture transactions, private placements, M&A, commercial contracting, and outside general counsel support for growth-stage businesses.
-
Before founding CounselX P.C. in 2012, Umar practiced at Dentons in Doha, where he advised major regional and global clients on corporate, finance, technology, and media matters and supported the launch and early growth of the Doha office. He later served as Head of Legal at Al Rayan Investment, a QFC-regulated investment bank, where he led legal strategy across corporate development, cross-border acquisitions, and financial products throughout the Gulf region.
Umar’s earlier career includes work in journalism with CNN, Reuters, and the Associated Press, and in public relations with Weber Shandwick—experiences that shape his clarity-driven advisory style, emphasis on precision, and ability to distill complex fact patterns for business leaders.
His practice spans the United States, the Middle East, Europe, and the United Kingdom, with experience across technology, digital platforms, consumer products, SaaS, and AI-enabled businesses. Umar brings a judgment-forward, solution-oriented approach shaped by international experience and long-term advisory relationships.
