About
Adriaan Grijns is a New York corporate partner whose practice focuses on private M&A and the growth of venture‑backed companies that are often building toward a sale. He works most naturally at the transatlantic intersection, advising on transactions where a European seller, founder, or shareholder group is on one side of the table and giving U.S. clients the perspective and relationships they need when their deals or operations take them into Europe.
-
Originally trained as a civil lawyer in the Netherlands and fluent in French, Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese, Adriaan brings a genuinely uncommon edge to this work. He understands how European clients’ priorities, concerns, and legal frameworks shape the way they approach transactions, and he has also worked in‑house as European Regional Counsel for INVISTA, an industrial materials company and subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc. with operations across more than 20 countries. That lived familiarity with both sides of the Atlantic changes the quality of advice on a cross‑border deal and gives him a perspective that many New York‑qualified attorneys cannot offer.
In recent years, Adriaan has advised on a series of mid‑market M&A transactions, often involving European sellers, and he also advises growth‑stage and strategic buyers on cross‑border acquisitions and investments. His recent matters include acting for selling shareholders in a private‑equity‑backed U.S. asset deal with roll‑over and governance features typical of private equity transactions and multiple sales of European business services and technology‑enabled companies, including AI and software, to U.S. strategic buyers, many of them public companies. He also has experience with transactions involving European industrial and chemicals businesses. Alongside his M&A work, Adriaan advises Dutch and other European companies as they establish and grow their U.S. businesses, including on early‑stage financings, venture debt, and early equity rounds. He has developed particular familiarity with the dynamics these matters present: bridging legal cultures, managing expectations around U.S. deal processes and documentation, and ensuring that European clients and their advisors feel understood rather than processed.
Adriaan also serves as outside general counsel to a fast‑growing New York fintech company, a role that reflects the kind of long‑term, trusted‑advisor relationship he values alongside transactional work. He has an active interest in advising U.S. companies doing business in Europe, whether through acquisition, investment, or commercial expansion, and he is well placed to provide the legal and commercial perspective that those clients need from their U.S. counsel. He maintains strong relationships with law firms across Europe, including in France, and is a trusted referral partner for European companies and their advisors seeking New York‑qualified counsel for transactions in the United States.
