About

Michael focuses his practice on technology, data use, and cybersecurity. He enjoys partnering with emerging and established clients across nearly every industry to meet their legal and strategic goals, including: building and managing data privacy and information security programs; anticipating and responding to technology incidents and data breaches; advising on technology and commercial transactions; designing and taking products to market; and assessing risks related to data flows, digital footprints, and policies and procedures.

  • Michael provides pragmatic and scalable insights for navigating the evolving, ambiguous, and conflicting risks arising from the intersection of sensitive data, technology, and the law.

He works to insulate clients from business and legal risks associated with data and technology, including: vendors and enterprise relationships; marketing and telecommunications; advertising and third-party data use; cross-border data transfers; and the ever changing cyber threat landscape. These efforts include management of emerging products and services such as autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, blockchain, unique digital trackers, and potential dark patterns.

Michael has directed client responses to hundreds of data security incidents, regulatory investigations and actions, and third-party claims. He is trusted as an immediate contact to navigate situations involving operational disruption, sensitive data extortion or release, crisis communications, regulatory scrutiny, or third-party claim exposure. His relationships and experience within the field enable fast, tailored, and holistic solutions for each step of the incident response lifecycle.

Michael joined Pierson Ferdinand from what was then the world’s largest international law firm, servicing both global market leaders as well as novel startups and ventures.

Additionally, Michael has been a pro bono mediator with the New York Peace Institute since 2016, and holds IAPP CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications.
