About

Ryan has been an attorney in the field of intellectual property law for over 20 years. His practice is unique in that he handles legal issues for various types of technology from creation to enforcement. Ryan helps his clients secure registration and issuance of their patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Then, once obtained, Ryan assists his clients to protect their valuable intellectual property rights, license such rights, and enforce such rights in court.

  • This unique holistic approach allows Ryan to “see the big picture” for his clients (as opposed to being focused on any one narrow area of intellectual property law) and ensure that the rights obtained for his clients are in fact valuable rights that others will desire a license for and that can be used in court to actually stop infringing products and conduct. Ryan’s experience spans clients who are individuals to startups to medium size companies to Fortune 500 companies.

Ryan has first chair experience with patent litigation, particularly in the fields of medical devices, mechanical devices, automotive products, computer equipment, and other technology related to the internet and data. He also has first chaired litigations concerning copyrights and trademarks.

With respect to patent portfolio management, Ryan uses his experience in litigation to help clients obtain patents that will not only protect their products, but that will allow their enforcement at trial to be effective and understandable to a jury. Ryan regularly counsels clients to obtain protection and registration in the areas of patents, trademarks, and copyrights and also assists clients in the evaluation of patent and trademark portfolios for businesses and due diligence evaluation. In addition, he has experience with general business practices, trade secret protections, and confidentiality agreements.

Finally, Ryan has over 20 years of experience negotiating and drafting various types of contracts for individuals and businesses, including licenses, commercial contracts, customer agreements, website use agreements, and assignment agreements for all types of intellectual property rights and business arrangements.
