Merlyne Jean-Louis is a transactional business and entertainment attorney who helps businesses and creatives protect their ABCs (assets, brand, and content) via contracts, intellectual property, and business setup & compliance. Her entertainment practice focuses on the influencer marketing/content creator and podcast industries.

Merlyne has experience drafting and negotiating various types of entertainment and business agreements, including podcast, influencer/content creator, film production, television, distribution, talent, appearance, collaboration, licensing, intellectual property, assignment, confidentiality, and services agreements. She conducts rights clearance of audiovisual content, including that used in films, influencer brand campaigns and podcasts.
Merlyne also helps clients protect and monetize their intellectual property via trademark clearance searches, prosecution, and maintenance; copyright analysis and copyright registration; and licensing. She also advises clients in issues related to the freedom of speech and intellectual property rights, including defamation and the right of publicity/NIL.
Merlyne obtained her J.D. from the Duke University School of Law and B.A., cum laude, in Psychology and French, minor in Pre-Business Studies from New York University. She is admitted to practice in New York and California. She is a legal commentator who has been featured in Bloomberg, CBS and The Verge. She volunteers with the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Freelancers Union, and Dance/NYC and serves as a mentor under Femme It Forward’s Next Gen Femme mentorship program. She is also a former semi-professional dancer and former competitive Crossfitter.
