Dr. Daniel Kennedy is a registered patent attorney with 8 years of experience in patent prosecution, performing invalidity and infringement analysis, freedom to operate analysis, and strategic patent counseling.

  • Daniel has worked with clients ranging in size from seed and series A startups to multibillion-dollar publicly traded companies. His technical specialties span a range of fields that include medical imaging, spectroscopy, optics, magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, macromolecular sequencing, cell sorting, microfluidics, quantum metrology, brain-machine interfacing, in silico drug design, artificial intelligence, machine learning, optical computing, and quantum computing, among others.

    He provides strategic counseling, patent portfolio review and analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis, invalidity and non-infringement analysis, and patent prosecution services in fields including medical imaging, spectroscopy, optics, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, macromolecular sequencing, cell sorting, microfluidics, quantum metrology, brain-machine interfacing, in silico drug design, artificial intelligence and machine learning, optical computing, and quantum computing, among others.

    Before moving into patent law, Daniel obtained a B.S. and a B.A. in physics, mathematics, and philosophy from the University of Minnesota and a PhD in biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley. During his time at Berkeley, he worked on leveraging optical techniques to detect nuclear magnetic resonance signals without the need for large, expensive superconducting magnets. He also completed a postdoctoral research appointment at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he worked on a variety of projects related to national defense. Daniel obtained his JD from the University of California, Berkeley. He is admitted to practice in California, Colorado, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
