Pierson Ferdinand Strengthens its Thriving Global Media, Entertainment, and Sports Practice

Former professional actor, Sekou Campbell, joins as Partner – bringing deep expertise across the creative industries

Philadelphia, PA – September 10, 2024 – Pierson Ferdinand LLP (“PierFerd”), one of the world’s fastest-growing law firms, announces the appointment of Sekou Campbell as a Partner.

Sekou brings extensive experience in representing intellectual creatives – particularly those operating at the intersection of technology and traditional entertainment – to PierFerd. Previously a professional actor, Sekou combines his passion for the arts with deep corporate expertise and a unique understanding of the needs of creative enterprises.

He arrives at PierFerd after five years at CM Law PPLC (formerly Culhane Meadows).

Across his career, Sekou has represented various intellectual creatives – including gold-certified artists, entrepreneurs, and growth companies – advising them on developing their businesses. Sekou’s track record of advising high-profile clients aligns well with PierFerd’s Global Media, Entertainment, and Sports Practice – operating at the cutting edge of the sector.

Notably, he has advised commercial litigants and intellectual creatives in a range of disputes including copyright infringements; record deals; film adaption agreements; multi-million-dollar asset purchases; and other transactions – helping established and emerging talents ensure their best interests are protected.

Sekou’s technology and entertainment expertise also led to a role as outside general counsel for an Artificial Intelligence music composition software company – helping the company respond to the fast-evolving legal landscape.

Sekou is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He will join PierFerd’s Corporate Department, working across several practice areas including Global Media, Entertainment & Sport – bolstered in recent months by prominent hires including Steven S. Sidman, Denise Stevens, David Chidekel, Alison Finley, and Mackenzie Welch.

The latest addition to this line of stellar names, Sekou joins a thriving practice with a portfolio of truly global clients including record labels, film studios, recording artists and other creatives.

Michael Pierson, Co-Chairman of Pierson Ferdinand, said:

"Sekou’s vast experience within the creative industries - as an attorney and an entertainer - gives him a hard to replicate skillset, and we are delighted to welcome him to PierFerd. His creative verve and deep expertise make him a perfect addition to our team.”

Sekou Campbell, Partner at Pierson Ferdinand, said:

“It is a pleasure to arrive at PierFerd, joining one of the most exciting and welcoming law firms in the country. PierFerd’s fast-growing Global Media, Entertainment & Sports practice is quickly becoming one of the leaders in the sector, and I look forward to contributing to the success of my fellow Partners and our clients.”

Committed to giving back to the community, Sekou volunteers at various organizations. He is a member of the Copyright Society of the United States of America; Philadelphia Chapter; a member of Black Entertainment and Sports Law Association; and has participated in the Arts & Business Council of Philadelphia’s Business on Board program.

This dedication has been recognized by his industry peers; he was awarded ‘Volunteer of the Year’ by the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in 2017. He was also named in The Network Journal’s ‘Top 40 Under Forty’, in 2012; labelled as a ‘Renaissance Man’ due to his ‘embrace of the intellectual as well as the artistic’.

Across his entertainment career, Sekou held a notable role as a police detective in the 1991 film, New Jack City, appearing opposite Ice-T, while he voiced the character ‘Snow’ in the videogame remake of the cult classic Warriors, released by Rockstar Games in 2005.

He holds a J.D. in Intellectual Property & Constitutional Law from the Cardozo School of Law in New York; an M.F.A in Theater from Columbia University; and a BSc in Human & Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University.
