Pierson Ferdinand Guides BrightNight Power in Landmark US$1 Billion Arizona Solar-Plus-Storage Deal
Firm’s counsel underscores PierFerd’s leading capabilities in utility-scale hybrid energy transactions
Phoenix, AZ – November 18, 2025 – Pierson Ferdinand LLP (“PierFerd” or the “Firm”), one of the world’s fastest-growing law firms, advised longstanding client BrightNight (and Bright Night's joint venture partner, Cordelio Power) to fund the development of a 300-megawatt solar and 1,200-megawatt-hour battery energy storage facility in Yuma County, Arizona – the Pioneer Clean Energy Center. The project, one of the largest of its kind in the United States, will deliver clean energy to Arizona customers under a long-term agreement. The successful closure of the transaction highlights PierFerd’s deep capabilities in guiding clients through complex, large-scale renewable energy projects.
Partner Marian LaLonde and Paralegal and Registered Landman Tiffany Waryu counseled BrightNight across all stages of the transaction, providing counsel on real estate and regulatory matters, including construction permitting, due diligence, entitlements, financing support, site control, and survey and title curatives.
The transaction builds on PierFerd’s longstanding relationship with BrightNight, following the Firm’s involvement in the BrightNight BOCA Project, a 300-megawatt solar development in Pinal County, Arizona. The facility commenced commercial operations in June 2025 and now supplies clean energy to Southwest Public Power Agency, Inc.
Marian LaLonde, Partner at Pierson Ferdinand, commented:
“This landmark billion-dollar transaction underscores BrightNight and Cordelio Power’s leadership in advancing utility-scale hybrid energy infrastructure and demonstrates PierFerd’s commitment to guiding clients through the most complex and transformative projects. Tiffany and I are proud to have supported BrightNight and Cordelio since the inception of this development and to have contributed to the successful close of the transaction.”
Erik Ellis, EVP of Development at BrightNight, added:
“We’re proud to have reached financial close and begun construction on the Pioneer Clean Energy Center – a major step in BrightNight’s work to help customers meet the fast-growing energy needs of the Southwest. We’re grateful to Marian, Tiffany, and the PierFerd team for their partnership and skill in guiding this complex transaction to a successful close.”
