In Memoriam: Jack Drogin

PierFerd mourns the loss of our Partner Jack Drogin.

Statement from A. ‎Michael Pierson, Co-Chairman at Pierson Ferdinand

It saddens us deeply to announce the death of our Partner, Jack Drogin. Jack joined the Firm in Washington, D.C. in May of this year, and he was widely recognized as a leading securities lawyer. As a senior trading and markets attorney who represented a diverse array of clients in matters involving digital assets, fintech, and securities regulation, he served as counsel to dynamic financial regulation and fintech clients addressing the most pressing, innovative issues of our time.

Jack had over three decades’ experience advising clients at the intersection of U.S. securities law, broker-dealer and investment adviser regulation, and digital asset markets. His practice focused on advising financial institutions, fintech companies, and digital asset platforms on how to navigate the ever changing securities regulations. Jack also counseled regulated and non-regulated entities from across the financial services industry.

He served as General Counsel and Chief Regulatory Officer at Osprey Funds. He was a Partner of Schiff Hardin LLP (now ArentFox Schiff LLP), was Counsel at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP, and a Shareholder of financial services boutique Murphy & McGonigle, P.C. Additionally, Jack spent a decade in the SEC’s Division of Market Regulation (now Trading and Markets), where he oversaw the regulation of national securities exchanges, clearing agencies, registered broker-dealers, and transfer agents. At Pierson Ferdinand his extensive knowledge complemented the work of Partners in our Fintech, Blockchain, and Securities Regulation Practices.

Welcoming Jack to the Firm was a meaningful moment for me personally and professionally. I practiced on his team in the Investment Management Practice when I was an Associate at Morgan Lewis, where his leadership and generosity as a senior lawyer left a lasting impression on me. It was humbling to welcome him as a Partner of our Firm, where his understanding of national market structure, market participants, and digital asset innovators added considerable value to our clients and supported our ambitious growth plans. I very much enjoyed his company, his dry humor, and his patience in training me as a lawyer. I will miss him very much.

Jack earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and he was admitted to practice in New York and Washington, D.C.

We mourn the loss of a great lawyer and a wonderful colleague. Our heartfelt condolences go to Jack’s wife, Monica Gourovitch, and to his entire family.
