Pierson Ferdinand Welcomes Financial Regulation and Commodities Authority, Julian Hammar

Brings extensive Commodities, Futures, and Derivatives experience to PierFerd’s corporate department

New York, NY – May 12, 2025 – Pierson Ferdinand LLP (“PierFerd”), one of the world’s fastest-growing law firms, announces Julian Hammar has joined its Corporate Department as Partner in New York and Washington, D.C.

Julian is a recognized authority in Futures, Derivatives, and Commodities - especially energy regulation, blockchain, foreign exchange and related securities law matters. He has exceptional financial regulation experience and was involved in drafting the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act). During his tenure as Assistant General Counsel at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Julian drafted regulations to further define key terms, including “swaps,” “security-based swaps,” and “security-based swap agreements.” He also drafted exemptive orders and adjudicatory opinions involving securities and futures regulations and commodity options.

Julian’s arrival enhances PierFerd’s reputation as a leading advisor to clients navigating complex financial regulatory landscapes and cements its position as an elite law firm offering the highest caliber legal advice across the financial services sector – now including commodities, futures, and derivatives.

Prior to joining PierFerd, Julian served as Associate General Counsel at Nodal Exchange, LLC, a key energy and environmental futures and options market and whose clearing subsidiary, Nodal Clear, LLC, clears for Coinbase Derivatives – where he advised on regulatory compliance and risk management. He has held senior leadership roles at other leading firms, including Covington & Burling LLP and Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he advised clients on compliance with Dodd-Frank derivatives regulations as well as the Volcker Rule.

A. Michael Pierson, Co-Chairman of Pierson Ferdinand, said:

“Julian’s impressive regulatory experience makes his appointment a coup for the firm, and is a strategic win both for clients who are developing financial services-oriented products and for digital asset market participants. Only a few law firms can counsel clients in structuring, offering, and trading commodities and derivatives. Many of us have worked with Julian previously, and we are very aware of the significant value he will add to our clients across the firm’s practices. His insights on complex regulatory issues, his ability to guide clients through governmental inquiries, and his prowess in counseling clients on matters involving the CFTC will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow our thriving practice.”

Julian Hammar, Partner at Pierson Ferdinand, added:

“PierFerd is rapidly building a leading reputation across corporate and financial regulation matters, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to its growth and success. Similarly, the chance to collaborate with familiar faces and colleagues was one I could not pass up – as I know the value PierFerd’s collaborative and entrepreneurial culture will create for both my clients and practice.”

Julian earned his J.D. and M.A. from Duke University School of Law and holds a B.A. from Yale University. He was recognized in The Legal 500 US for Structured Finance in 2019 and is a member of the Board of Editors of the Futures & Derivatives Law Report newsletter – published by Thomson Reuters.
