About

Richard has over 20 years of experience as a specialist employment lawyer, with a particular focus on international employment law. This experience has been built over a career working in leading global law firms, in-house roles, and employment law firm boutiques. Clients tell Richard that they appreciate the time he invests into building the relationship and getting to really understand the internal and external context and challenges that give rise to the advice they seek. Richard is also often recognised for his high levels of emotional intelligence and for his human skills.

    Richard works as a strategic adviser to UK and multi-national employers on a wide range of matters, including:

    • domestic and global employee relations matters, including sensitive grievance, disciplinary and performance management issues

    • managing difficult exits

    • advising on innovative employment models suitable for a workplace landscape in flux

    • large scale cross-jurisdiction change/redundancy and transformation programs

    • site closure/moves

    • multi-jurisdiction projects (recent examples include gender pay reporting requirements across 60 plus countries; background information check requirements across 25 plus countries; and permanent or long-term changes brought about by Covid across EMEA)

    • cross-border workplace investigations

    • international mobility and immigration

    Sectors

    Richard advises across a wide-range of sectors but has particular experience in insurance, financial services, and technology. Richard also supports several professional employer organisations (PEOs) and employers of record (EORs), advising them on their UK and international employment compliance strategy and other issues.

    Professional Recognition and Thought Leader

    Richard is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the American Bar Association (ABA) and the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA) and a frequent speaker on international employment law matters at conferences such as the IBA, ACC and other law firm annual conferences.
