Practice offering provides guidance to clients navigating emerging orbital economy
New York, NY – November 4, 2026 – Pierson Ferdinand LLP (“PierFerd” or the “Firm”) is pleased to announce the formation of the Firm’s Space and Satellite Law Practice, an international initiative supporting companies, investors, and institutions navigating the new frontier of legal risk presented by space activities.
The formalization of a Space and Satellite Law group reinforces the Firm’s commitment to meeting clients where they are. Partners will advise clients across disciplines relating to the orbital economy, including licensing and regulatory approvals, government contracting, cross-border investments, Earth observation data and GeoAI, export controls and national security, and international dispute resolution.
The practice will be led by Corporate Partner Kevin Pomfret, a former satellite imagery analyst with more than 40 years’ experience in the geospatial community, and Litigation Partner Kamel Aitelaj, a seasoned representative of sovereigns and multinationals, including in the space community, in a wide range of proceedings.
Kevin and Kamel are joined by a curated group of Partners with experience servicing clients across borders, including:
A. Michael Pierson and Joel M. Ferdinand, Co-Chairmen at Pierson Ferdinand, said:
“Our Space and Satellite Law Practice reflects both our Firm’s commitment to servicing clients across the full spectrum of legal need and the incredible depth of experience presented by our Partners. We believe our Team is in a strong position to provide clients in the orbital space with skilled counsel as space-related work continues to evolve.”
Corporate Partner Kevin Pomfret and Litigation Partner Kamel Aitelaj said:
“The space economy has outgrown the legal frameworks it was built on. Commercial operators and the investors behind them are navigating licensing, procurement, data rights, export controls, and international policy questions all at once, and the disputes that follow when deals and missions don’t go as planned. We’ve launched this practice because clients need counsel who understand not just the laws and regulations as written, but where they’re heading — in Washington and in the international forums that increasingly shape the industry. Our team combines deep regulatory and transactional insight with disputes experience to protect our clients’ interests at every stage.”
